U of T startup’s app assesses COVID-19 risk in public spaces
Raven Clean Air tracks carbon dioxide levels in order to assess COVID-19 risk.
Co-founded by U of T alum Muzammil Syed (IMS, 2022), the Raven Clean Air Map is a global map that allows users to log the CO2 levels of public spaces. The fresher the air in a school, workplace or shop, the lower the CO2 level and the less likely you’ll get COVID-19, and other airborne diseases.
Launched less than a month ago, the startup has already attracted the attention of a COVID-19 gifting fund started by Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin. Raven has received approximately $250,000 USD in grant money from the fund, called Balvi. The capital will go towards growing the Raven Clean Air Map, reports BetaKit.
The Raven Clean Air Map has been adopted in 175+ cities, and over 1000 data points logged worldwide. The startup was founded by Syed and Dr. Kashif Pirzada, a Toronto emergency room physician.
Syed is also the co-founder of Arterial Solutions, which is affiliated with U of T’s Health Innovation Hub (H2i) and won the $10K Lo Family Social Venture Fund Impact Award at Entrepreneurship Week in March 2022.
