Joella is CEO and Co-Founder at MedEssist, working with digital health, pharma, and diagnostic companies by leveraging community pharmacies to scale innovative solutions, and empowering the transition from local pharmacy to “pharmacy health clinics“.


MedEssist is a homegrown UofT startup having just tripled in size in 2022 to continue building uniquely more accessible, equitable, and personal health care systems through the modernization of local pharmacies.

Joella holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Diaspora & Transnational Studies, as well as Equity Studies from Woodworth College at U of T. She worked in both a start-up & a non-commercial bank prior to founding MedEssist with her co-founder Michael Do. This enabled her to amass a multi-hyphenate career spanning HR, sales support, customer success, and operations. Prior to joining MedEssist, she worked as a digital consultant becoming one of the first 2000 Shopify partners in Canada under the Shopify Partner Program.
