Schwartz Reisman Innovation Campus

ONRamp is located in the west tower of Schwartz Reisman Innovation Campus, a striking, glass-clad complex that anchors U of T’s unique cluster of world-leading artificial intelligence scientists and startups and serves as the HQ for the Vector Institute of Artificial Intelligence. The east tower will have a strong emphasis on life and health sciences with wet lab, classroom and office space for startup and scaling companies.

The Schwartz Reisman Innovation Campus will eventually spread across 750,000 square feet in the heart of Toronto where the academic, hospital, government and business communities intersect. It was made possible through a generous gift from Gerald Schwartz and Heather Reisman.

The Schwartz Reisman Innovation Campus is open to the public Monday – Friday from 6 am – 6 pm. ONRamp members will have 24/7 access to the building via a key fob.

ONRamp Member Benefits

ONRamp is accessible 24/7 to ONRamp Members and requires key fob access to enter. ONRamp Members can book shared meeting rooms and phone booths located across four floors of the Schwartz Reisman Innovation Campus via the EMS Booking Room System.

Please note that the meeting rooms in Schwartz Reisman Innovation Campus are currently not available.

Eligibility

To become an ONRamp member, you must meet the following eligibility:

  • Student membership: You are a current U of T student, faculty, or alumni (graduated since May 1, 2021)
  • Affiliate membership: You are not a current U of T student, faculty, or alumni, but are working with a U of T accelerator or are an early-stage start-up affiliated with another incubator or accelerator (university/college or external).  A referral will be required on your application.
  • General membership: Other stakeholders within the ecosystem (investors, community partners, etc.)
  • All members must have completed U of T’s IP Education Level 1 course. For applicants with a strong foundation in their IP knowledge, completion of Level 1 can be replaced by completion of a Level 2 Topic

Requirements of IP Education

All ONRamp members must complete at least one Topic through U of T’s IP Education Program, delivered online via U of T’s Quercus platform.

  • Why must I do this? The UTE Community believes that a base level of intellectual property (IP) knowledge will help all our members, regardless of whether they are currently engaged in an IP-based startup. It is consistent with recommendations from multiple levels of government and will ensure Canadian competitiveness. Access to ONRamp is heavily discounted and this is a small commitment in exchange for that benefit.
  • Level 1 is open to everyone and is geared toward those with little to no IP knowledge. The Level 2 Topics are for more advanced learners with existing knowledge of intellectual property and build on Level 1. We recommend you take them all.
  • If you already have extensive knowledge or experience with IP matters and wish to take Level 2 without taking Level 1, please request a waiver of the Level 1 pre-requisite on the Level 2 Registration Forms by typing “ONRamp Application Waiver” in the field that asks “What date did you complete Level 1?”
  • If you have any further questions, please contact the IP Education Program Coordinator at (ipeducation.entrepreneurship@utoronto.ca

Membership Fees

The new ONRamp is in prime, state-of-the-art space, located in a brand new 250,000-square-foot building in the heart of downtown Toronto.  As a result, membership fees have increased to offset added costs.  Both student and general memberships can be purchased in 4-month or 12-month blocks.  Your membership is activated when you pick up your key fob from ONRamp reception.

  • Student membership: $400 / 4 months or $800 / 12 months
  • Affiliate membership: $800 / 4 months or $1600 / 12 months
  • General membership: $1200 / 4 months or $2400 / 12 months  (please contact entrepreneurship@utoronto.ca directly to inquire about availability)

Please note that memberships are reviewed annually and if your eligibility changes, so may your fees on your next renewal.  Based on the capacity in ONRamp and the traction of your venture, there will be instances where members have grown beyond the subsidized space available in ONRamp and will graduate.  At this stage, we would be happy to introduce you to the real estate leasing team to explore other step-up options in the Schwartz Reisman Innovation campus.

FOB Replacement Fee:

  • The cost to replace your key fob is $35 plus HST.

Please note:

  • Items left behind will be placed in the Lost and Found for up to 30 days and disposed of thereafter. Half-sized lockers and cubbies are available to rent for storing personal items when not in ONRamp (see Storage section below).

Storage

Lockers and cubbies will be available to rent in ONRamp (subject to availability) for a fee. Lockers are $25 and cubbies are $10 respectively per 4-month block. Lockers have digital combinations that will be provided by University of Toronto Entrepreneurship staff. ONRamp members renting out cubbies will need to provide their own locks. Any unauthorized locks on cubbies will be cut off and items removed.

Any lockers or cubbies that are occupied without approval from University of Toronto Entrepreneurship staff will have the items removed and the locks cut.

Rules and Best Practices in our Co-Working Space

Being a part of a co-working space offers an unparalleled opportunity to network with and learn from other startups. We encourage you to get actively involved in the space – introduce yourself to others, work on different floors to meet different startups, and attend ONRamp events. Don’t forget to share opportunities and accomplishments with the rest of the community on the ONRamp @ UofT Entrepreneurship Slack channel

As an ONRamp Member, you agree to abide by the University of Toronto Entrepreneurship Community Code of Conduct

ONRamp is a community. Please be respectful of the space and other users by following the policies in this guide and cleaning up after yourself. Meeting rooms are reserved for those who book them and are intended for the use of two or more people; use hot desks or phone booths for individual work and sales calls rather than meeting rooms. Co-working etiquette also includes being cognizant of your speaking volume – please use phone booths when making phone calls to avoid unnecessary distractions for other members. Consider booking a meeting room if you require a working space for your group.

Lastly, we ask all users to be flexible around the use of the facilities and equipment and follow the guidance of the U of T Entrepreneurship team to ensure we can meet the needs of our startups and vibrant community.

We are committed to creating a safe, secure environment for all ONRamp Members and visitors. There is a zero-tolerance policy for anyone who:

  • Shares their key fob with others;
  • Walks in after ONRamp members to access the space without an individual membership;
  • Leaves any of the doors of ONRamp propped open, or otherwise breaches ONRamp’s security without U of T Entrepreneurship staff approval;
  • Removes any possessions from ONRamp that do not belong to them.

Those without ONRamp memberships or key fobs are not permitted to work in ONRamp. Visitors are not permitted in ONRamp. If you have a visitor, please meet them outside of ONRamp in the external areas of the building.

Failure to comply with any of the rules listed above or the UTE Community Code of Conduct will result in your ONRamp Membership and use of ONRamp being revoked without refund.

University of Toronto Entrepreneurship reserves the right to revoke privileges and access to ONRamp space to users at any time.
