Fyyne launches platform with pre-seed funding to address Black haircare accessibility: BetaKit
Today marks the public launch of U of T startup Fyyne’s platform in Canada and the US. The Black-owned-and-led startup, Fyyne, has set out to address the difficulty of finding barbers and hairstylists offering services for Black hair.
Fyyne was founded by Rotman Commerce grad Jeffrey Fasegha in 2019, and has since made a name for itself in the U of T Entrepreneurship community. The startup took home the People’s Choice Award (Dongjun Wang Family True Blue Prize) at the RBC Prize for Innovation and Entrepreneurship pitch competition during the 2021 U of T Entrepreneurship Week and received early support from U of T Mississauga accelerator, ICUBE UTM.
To support its growth, the Toronto-based beauty tech company raised an undisclosed amount of pre-seed funding from Canada’s BKR Capital (formerly known as Black Innovation Capital) and United States (US) investors in October.
