University of Toronto has been recognized as a World Top 5 University Business Incubator by UBI Global in its latest world benchmark study, announced live from Ghent, Belgium on January 24.

For the sixth edition of the World Benchmark Study (2021-22), 1895 organizations were assessed across 90 countries. World Top organizations are benchmarked across 21 KPIs against their global peers and global peers regarding the value they provide to their innovation ecosystem and client startups.

U of T scored high on many of the KPIs important to creating economic and social impact, including jobs created, funding raised, coaching and mentoring, alumni engagement, survival rate and exits.

This ranking is the result of an incredible amount of work by student, alumni and faculty startup founders and the dedicated staff, mentors and volunteers that support them across U of T’s 10+ campus accelerators.

As a nation, Canada is a global leader when it comes to supporting innovation and entrepreneurship. Fellow Canadian incubators and accelerators the Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurship at McGill, Centech, Accelerator Centre, York Entrepreneurship Development Institute and Genesis also ranked as top global incubators in their categories.

Many of the successful companies cited for the survey are in bleeding-edge technologies or industries where U of T research excellence is leading to commercialization and venture creation in fields including quantum computing, biotech, clean tech, advanced manufacturing, AI and machine learning.

The breadth and depth of U of T’s world-leading innovation ecosystem will be on full display during Entrepreneurship Week, March 6-9, 2023.
