\n Join us for our upcoming RBC Innovation and Entrepreneurship Speaker Series featuring Dr. Daniele Piomelli, professor of Anatomy and Neurobiology, University of California Irvine and Director of the UCI Centre for the Study of Cannabis, on the future of cannabis and cannabinoid therapeutics. This event is part of the calendar of events happening during Health Innovation Week<\/a><\/em> (April 1-5) and takes place during Cannabis Innovation Summit<\/a><\/em>, which will feature talks and panel sessions, and will serve as an interactive platform to highlight preclinical, clinical, and public health and policy research in Toronto. Click here to register for Cannabis Innovation Summit<\/em>.<\/a>\n\nThe future of cannabis and cannabinoid therapeutics<\/strong>\n\nAfter sketching a background on the biology of the cannabinoid system, the talk will outline opportunities and challenges in developing cannabinoid-based therapeutics, and the need to establish multidisciplinary initiatives to move the field forward.\n\nSpeaker bio<\/strong>\n\nDaniele Piomelli studied pharmacology and neuroscience with James H. Schwartz and Eric Kandel at Columbia University (1983-1988), and with Paul Greengard at the Rockefeller University (1988-1990). In 2000, two of his mentors (Kandel and Greengard) were awarded the Nobel Prize for their contributions to physiology and medicine. After working at the INSERM in Paris (France) and at the Neurosciences Institute in San Diego, with Nobel Laureate Gerald Edelman, Daniele joined the University of California, Irvine, where he is now Louise Turner Arnold Chair in Neurosciences and Distinguished Professor of Anatomy and Neurobiology, Pharmacology and Biological Chemistry.\n\nDaniele is an author of >400 peer-reviewed articles in journals such as Nature, Science, Nature Medicine, PNAS and Nature Neuroscience, three full-length books, and 34 patents. He founded the department of drug discovery and development (D3) at the Italian Institute of Technology in Genoa (Italy), which he directed from 2007 to 2016, and three biopharmaceutical start-ups based on discoveries made in his lab. He is director of the UCI\u2019s Center for the Study of Cannabis and Editor-in-Chief of Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research, the only peer-reviewed journal entirely dedicated to the study of cannabis, its derivatives, and their endogenous counterparts in the human body.\n\nLearn more about Cannabis Innovation Summit<\/a> <\/em>and the new Toronto Cannabis & Cannabinoid Research Consortium (<\/em>TC3)<\/a>.\n <\/div>\n \n\n \n
