Speaker : Dr. Joel Klappenbach

Senior Director, External Science and Innovation (Northeast, USA & Canada) Pfizer

Brief Bio: Dr. Joel Klappenbach is the Senior Director, External Scientific & Innovation Lead (Northeast, USA & Canada), for Pfizer Inc., supporting academic and industry partnerships around targets and technologies for pharmaceutical development. Joel has over a decade of pharmaceutical development experience across multiple therapeutic areas including immunology, oncology and neuroscience. Joel has led translational biomarker development for small molecule therapeutics in oncology, respiratory and inflammatory diseases. Most recently, Joel led functional genomics focusing on the translation of human genetic association data into drug targets. Joel is an expert in CRISPR gene editing and recently published a method for multiplex quantification of proteins and transcripts at the single-cell level. Joel has a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from Michigan State University, where he focused on microbial genomics and evolution.
