U of T student entrepreneurs come 2nd in IBM Watson Challenge

U of T students entered the 2015 IBM Watson Challenge with Ross, a virtual legal assistant. They travelled to IBM’s New York headquarters for the finals on Jan. 9, competing against teams from other schools for a prize of $100,000 in seed money for their startup app powered by Watson, IBM’s cloud computing system. As the only non-U.S. school invited to the finals, U of T was pitted against some pretty hefty competition including teams from MIT and Stanford University.

The winning prize went to University of Texas at Austin, with U of T’s Team Ross coming in 2nd. It proved a great experience and gave the teams exposure to local investors and law firms who may want to follow up with the projects that were pitched.
